Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day

First of all, Welcome! This is the first time I participate in Sew Mama Sew's Giveaway Day! For a few years, I've really wanted to be a part of this. You know, other than entering all the wonderful giveaways. There are so many talented people that I find through this wonderful event.

Secondly, please excuse my horrible picture. I just finished final exams on Friday. And I'm in the middle of planning my wedding. And helping my sister plan hers. I'm a little over my head. And I can't seem to find my camera. I just had it yesterday.

I'm offering a necklace and a pin in my giveaway. My friend taught me how to make jewelry recently. And I have to say, it's a lot of fun! This is a 20 inch silver necklace with silver glass pearl beads. The flower pin is made out of a large white bloom. I have a pink one that I like to wear on my cardigans. :)

For your chance to win, please leave me a comment with a link to a wedding blog or website that you might think I could use. Other than the Knot. I would also welcome a link to any type of homemaking, cooking, or newlywed blogs/websites. And if you don't know of any of the above, I would more than welcome some marriage advice. :)

Please leave 1 comment per person. You have until 11:59pm May 23rd, MST. Good luck. And hopefully, I find my camera so I can take a better picture. I promise, this is a nice set. ~Kate the Great

I haven't visited a wedding planning site since I planned my own wedding 13 years ago, so I can only offer my own advice. Marriage is alot of work, especially if you have children. Always try to remember the good things about your husband, because there will be days when you will be blinded by the bad. Best wishes for a long and happy marriage!

great giveaway! i love the necklace and the pin!
i'll be married 10 years in december, and i think the biggest lesson i've learned over the years is to be your husband's biggest fan and supporter! the thing men want most is to be admired and know that their wife believes in them!
congratulations!

The couples that I talk to that have been married for over 50 years all say that you should not say things in anger. It's better to walk away and then come back later and discuss the issue. I think that is great advice for all of us every day.

Marriage is wonderful! I would say that too many people say never to go to bed angry at each other. While this is a good idea, it's probably best to avoid staying up to "finish" an argument all night when you are both exhausted. We've found sometimes we have to agree to disagree, table an issue, and deal with it more reasonably when we've gotten some rest. Thank you for the chance to win!

My marriage advice would be to focus on the marriage, not just the wedding. A huge part is to get on a budget and discuss your expectations.

Crazy-cute giveaway! Thank you for putting together this creatively awesome prize! I have been divorced for many years now so I will give you some advice--you and your spouse must agree on a few core topics: money (both savers? spenders? can't be one of each!), religion, and children (do yo want them? how many? in what time span?) i disregarded this advice in my youth, but now i know better!

My best wedding advice is to always respect your mate. Do not keep score!

Susan said...

Lovely giveaway!! Thank you for the opportunity.
Congrats on your upcoming nuptials. and to your sister also.

My hubby and I were both married before, and both learned lessons from those marriages. we have now been married 24+ years. It is not without flaws, some major, but I prayed to God to forgive my first divorce, and that I would never do it again. I love my husband, truly. I can not see a life without him, however, there are enough reasons for me to part ways with him, as LOVE is not always enough.

so, my marital advice to you is(especially if you haven't lived together): make ABSOLUTELY sure you are on the same page when it comes to holidays and how you feel about them, and how you celebrate them. Spiritual faith, and how to celebrate your beliefs. Children, how many, and remember babies do not fix marriages, they are not to be had because one is bored (I didn't do either of these but know first hand from family members)

be on the same page about how you are going to discipline them, is a smack when called for appropriate?(yes) are time outs enough (no, they are actually fairly useless) taking things away is still a good punishment also. How much to give and not give to them, chores, allowance, etc...these are all things you need to be on the same page with. Do either of you have any jealous feelings at all when one of you is displaying time, effort and caring for someone else...if so, that will get worse not better, if not addressed. if there is any, ANY issues individually they need to be addressed NOW before you are living together and kids come along...like possible substance or alcohol issues especially, or anger management. shopoholic? hoarder? etc. Can either of you live without each other for a weekend or a week...if so good, then you can each be secure, and be an individual once in a while, which is very healthy to a marriage...to feed the individual in each of you, as well as the UNIT of both of you. Do not make the other your whole world, because then you are not living in it. do not put children before spouse, because children grow up and leave, and then it will just be the 2 of you again.
Make sure you both have a hobby of your own, and that you respect that of each other and support it.

Try not to go to bed angry...even if the discussion is not settled yet, try to at least agree to calm down and that you discuss it further in a day or so.

BE OK with EVERY PART of the Human body, you never know when one of you will have a serious injury or illness and need help from the other with even the most intimate care.

MOST importantly be on the same page with what you think is allowable in the marriage bed and what isn't.

TRY VERY HARD...to leave the past in the past
TRY VERY HARD ...to not name call
TRY VERY HARD...to use "I" statements when discussing something that bothers you, not "You" statements.

I have learned much from both my marriages, and from watching my sister's first one and her present one, my brother's one and only (about 31 years now) my parents (58 years) and some friends.

I know this is long but you asked. LOL
I hope I have given you some insight.

lastly, have you heard the phrase you never really know someone til you've lived with them?...it is ABSOLUTELY TRUE, and more so, you do not really know them til you've lived with them for a few years.

I wish you many years of harmony, and ask that God bless your union.
Susan

I just love your flower pin!

My advice would be to always sit down and talk things out. No matter how uncomfortable. Always talk about them. It's better to face things than to bury them.

Steph said...

Beautiful pieces!

I can't give much relationship advice. Except, always be honest. That will get you everywhere!

Court said...

I really do love this entire set!

As far as wedding and marriage advice, I would say to listen to each other. Do a lot more listening than talking. It will make a wonderful marriage.

The Blond said...

I just love this necklace!

Take it from someone who has experience, never keep anything from each other. Always be upfront about what's going on in life. And if there is every any problems, talk about them. They won't get resolved unless you talk about them. Good luck with you marriage!

I really like the flower. How beautiful!

I've been married for a few years. So I don't really know of many good websites. But www.newlywife.com is a good place for new wives. And they're supposed to start some wedding themed posts.

You're so talented.

My big advice would be to be honest with your spouse. All the time. And to communicate. But also, make sure you both have alone time. You know, time to spend with friends apart. It's important for a healthy marriage.
